Starbucks Casi Cielo is back for 2010

For those of our readers who like Starbucks Casi Cielo, it’s back and available in Metro Vancouver stores as of a few days ago. I’ve been waiting for this – my favourite Starbucks coffee – for a whole year and I’ve already stocked up. What about you?

Good choice Petti! If you like it, for your future reference, Bosa Foods has pretty competitive prices in Metro Vancouver. Why don’t you share with us what you think of Illy coffee?

I “passed by” Cafe Crepe today and their Illy coffee is selling at $11/can, down from $16. I kinda “assume” that is good price. Where is Bosa food? I still need to finish up my decaf before trying out the Illy one. Btw, what’s good about the Casi Cielo? I’m not expert in coffee…

We hosted a brunch last weekend and someone gave us a bag of Casi Cielo. Good stuff! Much better than the Pike (bleeh) or Christmas Blend. We brewed up some yesterday and you know what, it tastes good with grapes (we had red globe grapes). Just a suggestion!

Hi Petti – $11 is a good price for Illy. If I’m not mistaken, Bosa sells them for more. Bosa Foods is on Kootenay Street, near the Olympics HQ. (There’s another one in Little Italy, but I haven’t been.)

I really like Casi Cielo because it is the Starbucks blend that has the taste profile that most appeals to me. The beans are roasted just right – not the overly strong roast for which *$ is usually known – and has a medium-full bodied taste that drinks very smoothly and finishes cleanly without any strong aftertastes. Also, it has a nice level of acidity which keeps things interesting, and it has a very strong citrus-lemony profile that makes it go well with fruits and other sweets.

As with everything else, coffee is very personal and it just so happens that of all the *$ drip coffee, I like Casi Cielo best. The first time I had it, I knew it was the one for me.

I hear ya Jessica – I like it as a dessert coffee, with fruits and/or sweets. When taken without milk and just a little sugar, the lemony taste comes through most clearly. I’m rather ticked off that it isn’t available year round.

Casi Cielo is usually one of the very best coffees you can buy, and I sometimes pay up to $60 a lbs. This year it isn’t quite the same, and I was wondering why. I noticed this year the coffee beans were a bit lighter, and didn’t have the same cocoa flavors as usual… (I noticed even Cafe Verona tasted more like Casi Cielo from the last couple years) then I stumbled upon this article:

Casi Cielo should be available all year, and it should go back to it’s original glory

I have to agree with Preston. I was very disappointed with this years batch of Casi.

I had “discovered” it last winter and was eagerly looking forward to its return, but its nowhere close in terms of flavor.

Ah well, theres always next year.
