This cold and refreshing tofu dish is a popular tofu dish in Taiwan and South-East Asia, especially when the weather is hot. Making this tofu dish is very easy; in fact, this tofu recipe could be the easiest tofu recipe ever since it requires no cooking and could be ready in five minutes. Because tofu is the focus of this dish, usually the softest and silkiest tofu is used. The dark sauce poured on the tofu is sticky and sweet. Eaten together with crispy onion flakes, each bite has a fun texture like jello and occasionally, a surprised crunch.
Tofu is classified by texture and the usual categories are soft, medium and hard. Soft tofu is sometimes called “Silken” or “Silky” tofu. However, not all soft tofu is created equal. After trying brands like “Sunrise” and “Superior Tofu”, I finally found one that has the right silky texture. The brand is called “House” and their website is www.house-foods.com:

The Japanese characters on the label gave me confidence that this is the right tofu, and it turned out it was!
Other ingredients that you need are:

A sweet and sticky brown sauce called the ABC sauce. You can get this at Asian supermarkets such as T&T or Osaka.

Dried shredded pork (left) and deep fried onion flakes (right). The shredded pork can also be found in Asian supermarkets. Believe it or not, I found the onion flakes at the food section of Ikea! In South-East Asian, the onion flakes are commonly used for garnish.

The measurements don’t have to be exact (I told you this is an easy recipe, didn’t I?). Basically, you can put as much as the ABC sauce, shredded pork or onion flakes on the tofu as you like. In the end, you can drizzle in some soy sauce too.
