Christina, I honestly think this dish looks good :) And I"m sure it tasted good too. I was reading my Gordan Ramsay's Fast Food cookbook and it had a recipe for sear tuna and it said to cook the tuna on a hot pan about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes on each side, so you're right about the timing. But really, don't be too hard on yourself because that dish looked delicious.

Hi Jonners, Sonja,

Of course I won't mind telling you what I did with my first attempt:

1 tuna steak, about 1.5 inch thick
Japanese bread crumb (panko)
Mayonnaise
Paprika
Sliced green onion

Heat oil to 350F.
Cut the tun steak into stripes that are 1.5 inch thick.
Coat the stripes with panko.
Deep fried for 1 minute (it is supposed to be 20 seconds, according to Market; however, with this time, I think you have to fry in a much hotter temperature and I haven't figured out that temperature yet).
Cut the stripes into cube. Mix 1 tsp of paprika into a 1/4 cup of mayo. Serve the tuna with mayo and scallion.

I guess I should have just included this in my post huh? Let me know how yours turns out :-)

Looks yum! Would love to know your whole process--how thick is the ahi? Do you dredge in egg before coating with panko? What kind of oil? What did you use for the mayo?

Hi Shokutsu! I added the link to ET's post on Market so that you can see how this dish should look like. Yes, UF is a great place to shop...we used to go there a lot when we lived in dt. Now I just miss living in dt :-( :-)

The first image closeup doesn't look all that bad, so no need for you to be disappointed. :) Though, I've not seen the real deal at Market. Urban Fare is a fun place to shop at don't you think?
