I've been going to Le Crocodile for about 15 years now and I'm still impressed everytime I go. I'm actually quite glad it's not mentioned often in the media so booking a table makes it much easier. One item I love there is the lobster thermidor. Expensive but oh so worth it.

I Love Food, the pasta was really good - I'm quite the carb lover - and man, I really went to town on the shoestring fries. Our waiter told us he had three servings of the shoestrings for lunch that day!!

Appreciate the trio of tips! Funny how you mention lots of diners bring their digicams. I think I'll take my itty bitty one (and not the DSLR) should I go however, the place doesn't sound THAT accommodating. :)

Linder, Le Croc doesn't get a lot of mentions in popular media these days, but talk to some foodies, and quite a few will describe it as their favorite! It is definitely one of ours as well.

Anna, do try broiled bone marrow when you get the chance - it tastes rather "luxurious" (as Yukio Hattori used to say on Iron Chef!). And quite a few people were taking photos; our waiter kindly offered to take several pics of us. It's a friendly place, and for that, I'm glad!

ps. I finally made it to Pho Dau Bo and wrote my brief impressions <a href="http://doesnttaztelikechicken.com/2008/10/18/red-door-bistro-in-calgary/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

Shokutsu, let me see...

Parking: If you are driving there, and street parking isn't available, there is an underground parking garage(entrance just off to the side of the restaurant) that has a flat rate of $5 after 7pm in the evening.

Time: If you would like a more relaxed meal, try to go for a Mon-Thur dinner. Fridays and Saturdays can get pretty crowded, and I believe they are closed on Sundays.

Menu: I'd agree with linder - I haven't found myself disappointed with anything yet. And while I tend to order meat dishes in French restaurants, I wouldn't have any qualms about ordering Le Croc's seafood dishes either. I recall you like foie gras, so you might want to give theirs a try.

Happy eating!!

Thanks for posting this - Le Crocodile is our favourite restaurant, hands down! We go there several times a year (including once with a group of 12 people) and have never had any complaints about the food or the service. It is definitely a "sure thing".

Shokutsu - I feel comfortable in saying you could close your eyes and pick any item, and it will be fabulous!

Happy New Year! Lovely to see you guys went to Le Crocodile. I've heard so much about that place and it's nice to see that you were able to take pictures there. :) It's nice to see bone marrow cooked differently, I've always eaten it the Asian way, out of a bowl of soup and slurping it up.

Thanks for post!

Wonderful to hear that you've developed such a solid dining out tradition as one of the city's best known establishments.

Do you have any tips for a first timer there (best time to go, what to order, etc.)?
